The Foundling: Heir of Ash and Blood by Donald Firesmith Receives Multiple Recognition

United States, 3rd Jul 2025,
The Foundling: Heir of Ash and Blood, a speculative fiction novel by Donald Firesmith, has been awarded the Excellence in Literature Award by OneTribune Media and the BREW Seal of Excellence from The Chrysalis BREW Project. The novel was also shortlisted for the monthly and annual BREW Readers’ Choice Award.

According to OneTribune Media, the Excellence in Literature Award is “a tribute to the timeless power of storytelling. We recognise works that transcend fleeting trends—books that resonate deeply and linger long after the final page… [and] reflect true literary excellence.” The award is given to titles that demonstrate “mastery, originality, and the ability to connect with readers on a meaningful level.”

The Chrysalis BREW Project granted the BREW Seal of Excellence after an editorial review called the book “a fascinating novella” that “will not only take you on a thrilling adventure but also leave you with an important life lesson.” Reviewer Kajori Sheryl Paul noted, “Master world-builder Donald Firesmith crafts a highly relatable world… Firesmith shows us the inherent evil of the caste system. He underlines the importance of respecting everyone and treating them with equality.”

The Foundling: Heir of Ash and Blood follows Ash, a nameless youth born into the lowest caste of a rigid and stratified society. After an unexpected act of heroism, Ash discovers a secret about his identity that brings him into conflict with powerful forces. The narrative presents themes of identity, caste, inequality, and personal agency, through a coming-of-age lens grounded in political and social dynamics. The book has been described as “a lens” that explores “how societies construct class and how individuals can break that mold—not with a sword, but with a signature.”

In addition to the two awards received, the novel has also been shortlisted for both the monthly and annual BREW Readers’ Choice Award, which recognizes audience engagement and reader preference across The Chrysalis BREW Project platform.

You can find the book via Goodreads and Amazon.
